This antique chromolithograph was printed in bulk by the White Sewing Machine Company with a blank back, then customized with one color printed address of for distribution at sales offices across the U.S. The colorful bouquet of wildflowers and ferns is presented as an "Facsimile" example of what their sewing machines were capable of embroidering. They were distributed at "salesrooms" to create buzz among hand-embroidering ladies (which was nearly ALL ladies at the time) about the potential time savings and quality of machine-embroidery.
THE WHITE SEWING MACHINE CO.:
Thomas White began producing sewing machines in 1858 in Templeton, Mass. The company moved to Cleveland in 1866 and White Sewing Machine Co. was incorporated in 1876. The White Family Rotary model was introduced in the late 1890s. It was the company's most popular machine and was made until the 1950s. White also made sewing machines for other companies, including Sears Roebuck. The company name became White Sewing Machine Corp. in 1926.

W.J. MORGAN, CLEVELAND, OHIO:
William J. Morgan (1838-1904) and his younger brother, George W. (1843-1905) established the Morgan Lithograph Co. in 1864.
Located originally on Superior Street, the W. J. Morgan & Company produced broadsheets, trade cards, pamphlets, blotters, postcards, and posters to advertise local businesses. Increasing orders from surrounding states soon allowed the company to move to larger headquarters.
Morgan used the stone lithographic process to create its advertising materials. They hired a number of artists to design quality images to entice businesses to pay Morgan to promote their products. Many of the artists were also traveling salesmen who sketched their clients' offices, buildings, and facilities which often appeared on the advertising materials.
