Description
Antique British P1827 Volunteer Rifles Officer's Sabre. This example is in fantastic shape overall. The blade is nice and straight. The steel is bright and free from rust or pitting. The only flaw that I see is a small nick in the spine about a third of the down from the tip. The brass proof slug says "PROOF" and is surrounded by laurel branches. This blade is rather rare and unusual in that rather than the maker or retailer being etched into the base of the blade near the hilt, this example simply has a star. The hilt is solid with no bends or looseness and the steel has a nice even patina. The shark skin grip in completely in tact and in nice shape. The only flaw of the hilt is that it is missing the primary braided grip wire (the smaller secondary wires are present). The sabre sheaths securely in the scabbard. The scabbard is in great solid shape with staining and old stabilized rust. Please feel free to ask me any questions.
