This listing is for an absolutely stunning antique Gorham Sterling Silver sugar bowl or basket.
The drape design and pierced sterling work is very fine quality.
I do not know how to date antique Gorham Sterling Silver pieces, but I found one website that said the letter “D” would date a Gorham piece to the 1870’s.  That is highly possible with this piece, which was purchased from a farm estate that dates back to the early 1800’s; and the mark on the bottom appears to be an old English “D.”
This gorgeous piece is gold-washed and the gold wash is still in excellent condition.  There are just a couple of areas that show age and they are very minor.  The cobalt glass dish is also in excellent condition with no chips or cracks or damage. (A little dust in the bottom.  Sorry I did not see this until after I took the photos)
The bowl stands approximately 5 57/64 inches tall and is approximately 4 3/16 inches wide.  The silver weighs a whopping 133.9 grams.
I can imagine this stunning piece setting in the middle of a table during coffee or tea time.  This is certainly a piece that could be used as the cornerstone of a high end Gorham collection.
