After World War I, the Bulldog became the Corps' mascot.
According to legend, the Marines fought so valiantly in the Battle of Belleau Wood in France that the Germans dubbed them "teufel hunden," after the Bavarian devil hounds. The moniker "demon dogs" stayed with them.
Bulldogs are regarded as icons of bravery all throughout the world. The thickset bruisers are used as mascots by sports teams and universities across the country, and the Bulldog is famously associated with Winston Churchill's defiance of Nazi Germany.
Bulldogs became the unofficial mascot of the US Marine Corps after a recruitment advertisement depicted a Bulldog wearing a US helmet. There is no better breed to stand in for the Marines as their "teufel hunden."
Chesty VI, the 8th & I mascot, was given an Article 15 on September 5, 1979 for destroying a punching bag and "willfully disobeying" a direct order (to stay away from the same bag).
Chesty's rank was reduced to Private, but he didn't really learn his lesson.
He was NJP'd again a year later, this time for biting two Corporals on the foot.

What is 9999 Silver?  9999 Silver is essentially the purest form of silver there is.  When you buy jewelry, rings, or necklaces they are generally sterling silver if they are of top quality.  Sterling silver in comparison is approximately 7% copper.
