On offer here is this delightful and elegant example of a Vienna
(Austrian)
silver sugar basin handcrafted in
the classic Art Nouveau manner and repousse decorated in the round with an Iris bloom
with
sinuous trailing stem and foliage
. Mounted a pair of stem form, cast loop handles and having an everted ruffled rim.
Stamped to the base with the Minerva's head purity mark for Vienna (Austria) and the number '3' denoting silver content
of 800/1000 parts pure silver, and the "Ewer" mark for the Eduard Friedmann Studio.
The Eduard Friedmann silver workshops were active in Vienna, Austria from 1881 to 1919.
Many of the most talented artist's/designers of the period worked within or provided designs to this workshop
including the likes of; Rudolf Karger, Milla Weltmann, Hans Bolek, Philippe Hauser,
Emanuel Josef Margold and Otto Prutscher, to name a few.
