Description

Presented is a gorgeous pair of antique German silver and cut glass bowls. These
bowls were made by renowned German makers M.H. Wilkens & Sons and date to
the late 1800s or early 1900s. The bowls themselves are silver with a delicate
openwork design around the sides and a gold wash. Each bowl stands on four
striking paw and claw form feet, transitioning into a stately column with an
acanthus leaf capital. The liners are glass with a toothed-edge design around
the rims, interspersed with beveled panels cut with little rayed stars.
Both bowls are stamped on the underside with the German crescent and crown,
as well as 800 for the purity of the silver and the maker's mark for M.H.
Wilkens & Sons.
These pieces are in great overall condition. One of the glass liners has a
crack, but this is hard to notice when the liner is in the silver. There are no
other cracks, no chips, and no repairs to the glass. The silver has no splits,
no dents, no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
Each bowl measures about 6 3/4 inches in diameter and stands about 3 1/2
inches tall.
The total weight of the silver, without the glass liners, is 596 grams or 21
regular ounces. The total weight of both pieces including the liner is 1.64
kilograms or 3.6 pounds.
