Description
Offered for sale is this beautiful, arts and crafts period, hand wrought double handled Porringer or sandwich plate by noted copper and silversmith Katherine Pratt of Dedham Massachusetts. This beautiful and heavy piece is circa 1920’s as Pratt was a member of the Boston Society of Arts and crafts starting in 1915.I’ve had a few hammered copper pieces of hers over the years, but her sterling is very hard to find out on the road.
Beautiful, nearly invisible silver planishing to the surface, this unusual piece measures 9” long from end to end and stands 1.25” tall. I do not have a weight for this piece, but it is not being sold for scrap. It is a hefty piece of sterling silver for its size for certain.
Condition is beautiful, nearly flawless. No major scratches, dents or scuffs. Minor amount of residue in the bowl, but would most likely buff out. Shown in photo number 6, lower right corner and is very faint. This is the way I found it so I’ll leave buffing that out to the next owner.
Simply signed Sterling and “PRATT” for Katherine Pratt.
NO Monogram or marks.
This footed two handled dish would make a beautiful addition to an arts and crafts collection, especially one featuring talented female silversmiths of the early 20th century. It’s a truly fabulous piece of hand hammered sterling silver by a master silversmith.
