Original and nice circa 1810-1830s U.S. Militia Officer's Mounted Artillery Sword and Scabbard. This is a fantastic absolutely attic un-touched example of one of these swords. This sword is nearly 200 years old and has never been cleaned nor in any way ever fooled with. The sturdy 31 inch blade is not nicked and has liberal amounts of its fire blued gold gilded american and patriotic motifs still remaining, the remainder remains bright with areas of tarnishing from age. The brass guard and bone handle remain tight to the blade and both remain a beautiful untouched patina. The leather sheath with brass fittings is almost unbelievably all intact and original to the sword. Probably 1 in 500 of these early leather scabbards are all intact original to the sword. These early leather scabbards just didn't survive the test of time. They were old even before the U.S. Civil War. The leather scabbard remains solid in condition, its fittings remain tight to the scabbard body, and its scabbard seam still remains tight. Overall a nice and very rare early U.S. Artillery Officers sword and scabbard. It is extremely hard to find on of these in the attic un-touched condition this sword is in.
