  • Condition: This is a dug button and the ground has not been kind. It shows a significant amount of corrosion on its face and reverse, but it is intact with no dings or rim damage. It is a coat button at 20 mm in diameter. All the details of the device are present. The shank has broken away. It is rather rare button with a value upwards of 50 depending upon condition. It is offered at auction at a low price, but I really do not have an idea of its value so you set the price.

    Description

When the War of 1812 broke out, older artillery devices were scrapped in favor or a new simple foliated script “A” with the regimental number printed in an oval beneath.  Only three regiments had been formed at the time.
