    Description
Up for Consideration is a Extremely Rare Original Mid 19th Century Pre-Civil War Militia Tricorn Cocked Hat (c.1830-1850)

    c1830's-1850's
Incredibly scarce original mid 19th century/pre-Civil War (c.1830-1850) American Cocked (Tricorn) Hat. Type of hat worn by many pre-civil war militia units such as Worcester Continentals and even during the Civil War there were privateers wearing three sided hats. These types of original 19th century Tricorns were also seen in Parades closer to the centennial celebration of our Independence in 1876.
Condition is quite nice for it's age. Sweatband appears to have been removed. Period hand stitching as well as period sewing machine threads. The 0.90 inch border is in fancy brown silk satin with a gold metal thread trim. The outer base has a 1.0 inch black silk satin band and is stitched on the hat from the inside. There may have been a Cockade on the right side as there is a couple small holes where it may have been attached. minor soiling and Sweat Stains from the inside. A Couple trivial closed holes and some fraying to the border silk threads - else in quite nice condition for a Antique Militia/Parade Tricorn hat such as this. Please note photos as they are an important part of the description.

*We strive to give an accurate description of all our artifacts, but there is often times we have a very unique piece such as this and to make a structured guess from specific details of the piece. We acquired this many years ago from a Huge Revolutionary War/Civil War Military Collection in Vermont, once owned by a very well-known collector. The inventory tags indicating that this was a 19th Century Militia Tricorn.
