    Description

The compote in this sale is from a design that is certainly
Victorian and quite large. The bowl has a diameter of
7 1/2 inches wide and stands 6 1/4 inches tall. The foot is
about 4 inches in width. The Schofield company produced
this specific design around 1900. Hallmarked ‘Sterling 925/1000’.
Schofield added there own hallmarks on the foot of the bowl.
Some of the symbols Schofield applied are now barely readable
The Sterling hallmark is clear but very tiny. There are two Sterling
hallmarks, one on the foot and the other below the bowl, near
the stem. A solid compote that shows a few scratches at most.
Weighs 345 grams or about 11 Ozt. There are some tiny nicks on
the edge of the foot as shown in the photos. A couple tiny ticks
in the bottom of the bowl. Otherwise, better than excellent.
The foot also has the hallmark:  ‘Sterling 925/1000 Fine’.
Anything in a Sterling antique by Schofield are seldom
offered. The floral and arboreal design evoke a time long ago.
And produced by one of Americas’ finest silversmiths.
